If you want to eat Swedish 'husmanskost' this is the place! Cheap by Swedish standards and authentic Swedish food with good beer and a 'nubbe' shot of liquor if you're that way inclined. The service was very good and it made feel at home. Get some meatballs, pickled fish or even some reindeer! The complimentary bread basket was awesome as well. The staff are friendly,and we were given a huge basket of bread and swedish crackers. We had the starter of terrine on brioche, a great opener for what came after. For the main I had the fish stew, which was served as follows.. A large empty boal arrived with a long wooden tray with 3 generous side garnishes of croutons, grated parmesan and a horseradish cream sauce. Then the manager arrived with a pot and a ladle, and served the fish soup. Great service and I always enjoy a performance at the table. The soup was delicious, not too spicy and very filling, too much to finish. The other main was fried rye herring with a tartare type sauce with several ingredients, complemented the dish. Overall the food was really good, we were here only 2 days and ate out twice a day, this was as good as any of the other places we ate The food was well done and tasty. I had the Tortilloni filled with riccotta cheese, basil and pine nuts, served with a creamy redpepper sauce, arrugola and grated parmesan cheese. The Three desserts tasted very nice, although the Pannacotta tasted more of a chocolate mousse, so that was a bit of a turn off for me and for my friends who ordered the same. Overall, very good, tasty food. You know, South of Italy is also know for being the cradle of the Mafia, but actually many other places in the world learned from it and try to experiment different variant of mafia thinking. When you enter the restaurant, two big guys welcome you and offer themselves gently to take your coat, they say fun things, you exchange some words and you enter the restaurant. But when you go out, you realise that this is going to cost you something, and they're not from the restaurant but belongs to a separate business, but if you want, you can pay the requested sum to the restaurant anyway... Well, I have to admit that they learned the Mafia mechanism perfectly, it is a mixture of apparent friendship, a mix up of who is who, who is asking what, and who is receiving money for and, in the end, the pumped muscles of the guys at the entrance complete the picture with a taste of threatening. Appreciating delicious place-based food is one of my greatest delights while on a trip. We visited Kvarnen to enjoy Swedish cuisine. First of all, we enjoyed tartar steak as starter although it is not Swedish cuisine. Finely chopped and seasoned raw beef was served egg yolk, mustard sauce, caper, beetroot, red onion, and parsley. Some people may be hesitant to eat raw beef, but I love eating tartar steak mixed with all the ingredients by spreading on sliced bread. I then enjoyed reindeer stew and my wife salmon and white fish meat stew for main dish. Reindeer meat has less fat portion and I usually feel it somewhat dry, hard and tasteless. We can also eat reindeer on an all-you-can-eat buffet and typical restaurants in Finland, but this reindeer stew was exceptionally delicious because the meat was nicely cooked so tender.
